Shooting Events

Monumental Rifle & Pistol Club sponsors a variety of shooting events through out the year. We invite all of members to come out and participate in as many as you can!

Monumental Rifle & Pistol Club offers its members — men and women, young and "young at heart" — the opportunity to enjoy all aspects of the shooting sports in a casual, clean, safe, friendly, and enjoyable environment.     Monument Rifle Events

    RECOMMENDATIONS

    Consider .22 cal rim fire rifle on a calm day, center fire rifle on windy day. Ruger 10/22 type rifle with medium power scope is a good rim fire choice.  Use 22 to 30 cal. hunting rifle with medium power scope for center fire.

    RECOMMENDATIONS

    Use of typical deer rifle encouraged, 24 to 30 cal. Is the right choice for most. Use of a target rifle is not encouraged.

    Competition equipment is allowed: coat/sling/glove can are encouraged.

    RECOMMENDATIONS

    Entry fee to be charged for this event. This may be a two day event if allotted time and range access become problematic. Extreme accuracy is needed from the shooter, rifle, and ammunition in order to do well in this competition. Target rifles and scopes are obvious choices for use in this event.

    High Power Prone Match

    Bolt action rifle or AR-15 are proper/common choices.

    Bench Rest Match

    Scoring is by points and smallest 5 shot group

    EQUIPMENT

    No competition coat/sling/glove can be used. Rifle rest/support is required. Wind flags are allowed.

    RECOMMENDATIONS

    For Rim Fire: a target/heavy barrel rifle is recommended as well as good target or match ammunition (Eley, Lapua and RWS are dominant choices).

    For Center Fire: recommend using a target/sniper/varmint/benchrest-built rifle with match or precision loaded ammunition.

    Use of wind flags can be used in order to keep groups small.

    Small Bore Club Championship

    Match is usually dominated by .22 rim fire target rifles. We have a limited number of Anschutz rifles, mats, gloves, and scopes that can be borrowed from our Juniors program if you would like to try this course of fire. Coaching is available to any new shooters.,

    Same Old Crowd Rifle Match

    Standing, facing away from target, holding rifle on shoulder and use a mirror to sight rifle while standing on one leg.

    Any miss of the target and shooter forfeits $1000.00 to each by-stander observing the match.

    Shooter must post $250,000.00 bond with the Range Officer prior to the match.

    Match ends when you are broke.

    Entry fee of $1.00, funded to shooter if you win.

    Monumental Pistol Events

    No wad-cutter type bullets allowed.

    RECOMMENDATIONS

    Most shooters use .38, 9mm or .45 pistols for this event.

    A .22 cal rim fire pistol will not reliably knock down these targets.

    Any safe pistol issued/used by either military or police in any county from any time period, any caliber, and in a safe condition to shoot.

    EQUIPMENT

    Iron sights only. If the original pistol had fixed sights that is all that can be used: no retrofit of adjustable sights are allowed.

    Different grips can be substituted for original ones.

    Original barrel only. For example, a match barrel can not be used on a Colt 1911 .45 Auto, only a ‘government’ stamped barrel can be used. Above all, the gun must be one which was originally issued by either the military or the police, in any country, from any time period, any caliber and it must be in a safe condition to fire. In keeping with the spirit of this competition, modifications to any service pistol, if any, should be kept to a minimum.

     

    A ‘trigger job’ is legal in this match.

    RECOMMENDATIONS

    The gun must be one which was originally issued by either the military or the police, in any country, from any time period, any caliber and it must be in a safe condition to fire. In keeping with the spirit of this competition, modifications to any service pistol, if any, should be kept to a minimum.

    Revolvers only. Barrel length restricted to 3 inch maximum. Any sights. Any pistol that is safe to shoot.

    EQUIPMENT

     

    RECOMMENDATIONS

    Most shooters in this event use .38 Special snub nose revolvers. Other popular pistols are the .22, .32, .44 caliber revolvers. Light powered ammunition will give the shooter the best control by reducing recoil and thereby improving the score.

     

     

    NAME

    Bulls-eye Pistol Match

    Match pistol is recommended in order to score well. Iron or red dot sights allowed.

    EQUIPMENT

    Any safe pistol may be used 

    RECOMMENDATIONS

    This is a NRA type event, and match pistols are recommended, if not required, in order to score well. Match ammo is recommended, iron or red dot sights are allowed. Some 22 match autos recommendations are: Ruger Mark II/Mark III, Smith & Wesson Model 41, and Walther GSP. In center fire, Colt 1911 type autos are very popular.
