Shooting Events

Monumental Rifle & Pistol Club sponsors a variety of shooting events through out the year. We invite all of members to come out and participate in as many as you can!

Monumental Rifle & Pistol Club offers its members — men and women, young and "young at heart" — the opportunity to enjoy all aspects of the shooting sports in a casual, clean, safe, friendly, and enjoyable environment. Monument Rifle Events

TARGET	Turkey/Novelty target
GUN	Any safe rifle, any caliber, any sights
EQUIPMENT	No competition coat/sling/glove can be used.
RECOMMENDATIONS	Consider .22 cal rim fire rifle on a calm day, center fire rifle on windy day. Ruger 10/22 type rifle with medium power scope is a good rim fire choice. Use 22 to 30 cal. hunting rifle with medium power scope for center fire.

TARGET	Novelty target
GUN	Any safe rifle, any caliber, any sights
EQUIPMENT	No competition coat/sling/glove can be used.
RECOMMENDATIONS	Consider 22 rim fire rifles as good choices. Ruger 10/22 type or bolt action sporting types with medium power scopes are most popular rifles to use.

RANGE	High Power Range
DISTANCE	200 Yards
SCORING	Point Scoring (100 Possible)

POSITION	5 shots standing 5 shots sitting 5 shots prone 5 shots sitting rapid fire
TARGET	Life size deer target
GUN	Any safe rifle suitable/legal for deer hunting, any sights
EQUIPMENT	No competition coat/sling/glove can be used.
RECOMMENDATIONS	Use of typical deer rifle encouraged, 24 to 30 cal. Is the right choice for most. Use of a target rifle is not encouraged.

NAME	Reactive Rifle
RANGE	Barnes Range
DISTANCE	50 Yards
SCORING	Hit or Miss

POSITION	Standing
TARGET	“Neubold” plastic targets of 4 sizes are used
GUN	Any safe 22 rim fire rifle may be used, any sights
EQUIPMENT	No competition coat/sling/glove can be used.
RECOMMENDATIONS	A Ruger 10/22 or sporting weight bolt action rifles are typical choices in this event.

NAME	Masters Tournament
RANGE	Barnes Range & High Power Range
DISTANCE	100 Yards for rim fire / 200 Yards Center Fire
SCORING	Hit or Miss
# OF SHOTS	20 total (10 shots at 100 Yards, 10 shots at 200 Yards)
POSITION	Bench rest for 100 Yards, Prone for 200 Yards
TARGET	Golf ball sized target
GUN	Any safe rifle, any caliber, any sights
EQUIPMENT	Competition equipment is allowed: coat/sling/glove can are encouraged.
RECOMMENDATIONS	Entry fee to be charged for this event. This may be a two day event if allotted time and range access become problematic. Extreme accuracy is needed from the shooter, rifle, and ammunition in order to do well in this competition. Target rifles and scopes are obvious choices for use in this event.

NAME	High Power Prone Match
RANGE	High Power Range
DISTANCE	200 Yards
SCORING	Point Scoring (200-20X possible)
# OF SHOTS	20
POSITION	Prone with sighters
TARGET	MR52 target (200 yard slow fire target)
GUN	Any sporting/match/Palma/service rifle, any safe center rifle, fire any caliber, any sights
EQUIPMENT	Competition coat/sling/glove/mat can be used.
RECOMMENDATIONS	Bolt action rifle or AR-15 are proper/common choices.

NAME	Bench Rest Match
RANGE	Barnes Range Bench Rest Area
DISTANCE	50 Yards for rim fire and 100 Yards for center fire
SCORING	Scoring is by points and smallest 5 shot group
# OF SHOTS	10 shots for score-rimfire / 5 shots for group-centerfire
POSITION	Sitting at the benchrest with use of rifle support (sandbag or similar device)
TARGET	BR 50 and IBS Targets
GUN	Rim Fire - Any safe rim fire rifle, any sights Center Fire – Any safe center fire rifle, any sights
EQUIPMENT	No competition coat/sling/glove can be used. Rifle rest/support is required. Wind flags are allowed.
RECOMMENDATIONS	For Rim Fire: a target/heavy barrel rifle is recommended as well as good target or match ammunition (Eley, Lapua and RWS are dominant choices). For Center Fire: recommend using a target/sniper/varmint/benchrest-built rifle with match or precision loaded ammunition. Use of wind flags can be used in order to keep groups small.

SCORING	Point Scoring (400-40X possible)

POSITION	Prone
TARGET	NRA A-23/25 50 Yard target
GUN	Any safe 22 rim fire rifle may be used, any sights.
EQUIPMENT	Competition coat/sling/glove can be used and highly recommended.
RECOMMENDATIONS	Match is usually dominated by .22 rim fire target rifles. We have a limited number of Anschutz rifles, mats, gloves, and scopes that can be borrowed from our Juniors program if you would like to try this course of fire. Coaching is available to any new shooters.,

NAME	Bob Dunn Rifle
RANGE	Barnes Range
DISTANCE	100 Yards
SCORING	Hit or Miss
# OF SHOTS	25
POSITION	Standing
TARGET	100 Yard Small Bore Rifle Target
GUN	Any rifle, any caliber, any sights
EQUIPMENT	No competition coats
RECOMMENDATIONS	A .22 caliber rifle is good for calm (no wind) days. If windy, a center fire will be better. A sporting/heavy barrel rifle is the most frequent choice. Using match grade ammunition is helpful but not essential. Note: this is the first of 3 events that make up the Monumental Rifle and Pistol Club Bob Dunn Competition.

NAME	Pete Conroy Rifle Match (open to shooter’s age 55 and over, held same day as the Bob Dunn Match)

SCORING	Point Scoring (250-25X possible)

POSITION	Benchrest
TARGET	100 Yard Small Bore Rifle Target
GUN	Any rifle, any caliber, any sights
EQUIPMENT	No competition coats
RECOMMENDATIONS	A .22 caliber rifle is good for calm (no wind) days. If windy, a center fire will be better. A sporting/heavy barrel rifle is the most frequent choice. NAME	Same Old Crowd Rifle Match
RANGE	High Power Range
DISTANCE	200 Yards
SCORING	Hit or Miss Scoring
# OF SHOTS	Variable
POSITION	Standing, facing away from target, holding rifle on shoulder and use a mirror to sight rifle while standing on one leg. Any miss of the target and shooter forfeits $1000.00 to each by-stander observing the match. Shooter must post $250,000.00 bond with the Range Officer prior to the match. Match ends when you are broke. Entry fee of $1.00, funded to shooter if you win.
TARGET	Standard ping-pong ball
GUN	Any safe rifle may be used, iron sights only.
EQUIPMENT	Mirror No competition coat/sling/glove can be used.
RECOMMENDATIONS	None

Monumental Pistol Events

NAME	Bowling Pin Match
RANGE	Patapsco Pistol Range
DISTANCE	25 Yards
SCORING	Hit or Miss
# OF SHOTS	25
POSITION	Standing, using one or two hands
TARGET	Ten Pin size plastic silhouette Target must be knocked down for hit to count Five (5) targets total Maximum of five (5) shots per target
GUN	Any safe pistol, any caliber, any sights.
EQUIPMENT	No wad-cutter type bullets allowed.
RECOMMENDATIONS	Most shooters use .38, 9mm or .45 pistols for this event. A .22 cal rim fire pistol will not reliably knock down these targets.

NAME	Revolvers Only Match

SCORING	Point Scoring (250-25X)

TARGET	Standard NRA 25 Yard Target
GUN	Any safe revolver, any caliber, any sights
EQUIPMENT	Single or Double Action revolver
RECOMMENDATIONS	Use of match ammunition is helpful but not required. Most shooters use a .22 cal or .38 Special revolver.

NAME	Service Pistol Match
RANGE	Patapsco Pistol Range
DISTANCE	25 Yards
SCORING	Point Scoring (250-25X)
# OF SHOTS	25 shots
POSITION	Standing, using one or two hands
TARGET	Standard NRA 25 Yard Target
GUN	Any safe pistol issued/used by either military or police in any county from any time period, any caliber, and in a safe condition to shoot.
EQUIPMENT	Iron sights only. If the original pistol had fixed sights that is all that can be used: no retrofit of adjustable sights are allowed. Different grips can be substituted for original ones. Original barrel only. For example, a match barrel can not be used on a Colt 1911 .45 Auto, only a ‘government’ stamped barrel can be used. Above all, the gun must be one which was originally issued by either the military or the police, in any country, from any time period, any caliber and it must be in a safe condition to fire. In keeping with the spirit of this competition, modifications to any service pistol, if any, should be kept to a minimum. A ‘trigger job’ is legal in this match.

NAME	“Snubby” Pistol Match
RANGE	Patapsco Pistol Range
DISTANCE	25 Yards
SCORING	Hit or Miss

POSITION	Standing with two hands
TARGET	Standard NRA 25 Yard Target
GUN	Revolvers only. Barrel length restricted to 3 inch maximum. Any sights. Any pistol that is safe to shoot.
EQUIPMENT
RECOMMENDATIONS	Most shooters in this event use .38 Special snub nose revolvers. Other popular pistols are the .22, .32, .44 caliber revolvers. Light powered ammunition will give the shooter the best control by reducing recoil and thereby improving the score.

NAME	Bulls-eye Pistol Match
RANGE	Patapsco Pistol Range
DISTANCE	25 Yards
SCORING	Point Scoring
# OF SHOTS	30 total 10 shots slow fire in 10 minutes 10 shots timed fire in 20 seconds 10 shots rapid fire in 10 seconds
POSITION	Standing with one hand
TARGET	Standard NRA 25 Yard Target
GUN	Match pistol is recommended in order to score well. Iron or red dot sights allowed.
EQUIPMENT	Any safe pistol may be used
RECOMMENDATIONS	This is a NRA type event, and match pistols are recommended, if not required, in order to score well. Match ammo is recommended, iron or red dot sights are allowed. Some 22 match autos recommendations are: Ruger Mark II/Mark III, Smith & Wesson Model 41, and Walther GSP. In center fire, Colt 1911 type autos are very popular.

POSITION	Prone, hand support only, on or two hands
TARGET	NRA 50 Yard Pistol and 100 yard Rifle
GUN	Any safe pistol may be used, iron sights, red dot, or1X scope sight. Any type gun, any caliber
EQUIPMENT	Mat and spotting scope
RECOMMENDATIONS	A 22 for 50 yard and center fire for 100 yard
