2006 Dave Ward Memorial Scholarship Available

Open to Maryland High School Juniors and Seniors

(Marriottsville, MD) – The Monumental Rifle and Pistol Club, Inc. proudly announces the availability of the 2006 Dave Ward Memorial Scholarship. Dave Ward, a past member of the club, was known for his fun and creative recreational shooting events and his strong desire for good citizenship and education. The Scholarship, in his name, is open to all Maryland students, currently in High School, grades 11 and 12, and planning on continuing in advanced (post high school) education.

"The purpose of the Dave Ward Memorial Scholarship is to provide some financial assistance and to encourage citizenship studies and good citizenship in the students," said Carl Byczkowski, President of the Monumental Rifle and Pistol Club.

The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to any Maryland high school student, based on an essay entitled, "What Citizenship means to me". Additional application information and personal referrals will be used to select applicant finalists.

"We expect a creative original essay from each applicant. The applicants are to consider their position as an individual citizen of the United States and to relate citizenship to historical documents such as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and Bill of rights," said Mr. Byczkowski.

Scholarship applicants selected as finalists in a review process will attend a monthly meeting of the Monumental Rifle and Pistol Club and present their essay to the officers and members of the organization.
