A special message from our President Tim VonEiff

concerning

Monumental Rifle and Pistol Club's

2009 Wounded Warrior Event  - July 11, 2009

Ten U.S. Marines and forty U.S. Army Soldiers, wounded in battle and recuperating from their wounds at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda and Walter Reed Army Medical Center will be our guests for a day out of the hospital.  We also expect to have a number of medical personnel from each hospital as well.

Members of our Club will provide the means for these service men and women to shoot trap, precision small-bore rifle, pistol and archery. We will assign one club member to each of our guests. All told we will probably have about a two hundred people at our outdoor range in Marriottsville, Maryland on Saturday, July 11, 2009. We will rent whatever number of handicap accessible bathroom facilities that the military recommends.

Of course, while they are with us, we’re going to feed them and that is why I am writing to you. We’re asking our members and friends if they would like to participate in our endeavor by providing whatever you can for the day. A donation of your time is worth a lot to these young folks. A chance to get out from the hospital and spend some time shooting with people who care. A donation of your time is all I ask. If you can donate some ammunition, a firearm, hot dogs, hamburgers, potato chips, potato salad, bottled water, sodas or even a cooler, that too, would be appreciated.

We hope you will join us in thanking these courageous young people who have sacrificed so much for all of us. We have commitments from members of the Old Post and 10th Cavalry clubs to help out. I am hoping that Monumental members will rise to the occasion and make this a day to remember!

I have asked one of our members, Charles Cramer, to coordinate the activities on July 11th. Charles has already set up some co-ordinators for the various tasks/teams (food, small bore rifle, black powder, pistol, shotgun) . Let him know your preference and he will let the chairman know another volunteer (or donation) is forthcoming.   If you want to contact him first, his email address is cacramer@comcast.net and his phone number is 443.520.3165.

The Military tells me to prepare for as many as four hundred participants out to our range. Unfortunately, I’m not sure we could accommodate that many at one time with a Club membership of five hundred. But, if we can make this event a success for our troops this year, we will continue to do it every year until these men and women can return home to their families for good

Sincerely,

Timothy von Eiff

President
